This article will help you understand how night shifts are detected in TimeMoto.
What is a night shift?
A night shift is a shift that ends on a different day than it has started. Commonly, a night shift includes a period of time during the night (e.g., 10:00 p.m. till 6:00 a.m.).
Can I clock my night shift without a schedule?
Yes, TimeMoto can detect any clocked shift that passed midnight, unrelated to the schedules assigned. All you have to do is make sure to use "Clock out" only for the final clocking action. This is very important as a "Clock out" will close the shift. The following clocking sequences will be detected as a night shift:
- Clock in > Clock out
- Clock in > Break > Return > Clock out
Note: While Break and Return can repeat more than once every shift, keeping the sequences consistent is essential. TimeMoto requires these so that the night shift can be detected correctly!
How do night shifts appear in the Timesheet?
All night shifts are displayed on the day they started. They are marked with a sun and moon symbol to differentiate them from regular shifts.
How can I schedule a night shift?
Note: Can't find this in your Cloud? This feature is available with the Essential or Plus Plan of TimeMoto Cloud. If you want to get the most out of your TimeMoto account, make sure to upgrade your plan to your needs!
You can schedule a night shift by adding a new Fixed Times Schedule to your Schedules page. You can define a schedule with fixed start and end times spanning over the 24h mark like so:
In this example, the Monday shift starts at 22:00 and ends the following day at 6:00. All 8 hours will be accounted for the scheduled shift on Monday when reviewing the Timesheet. Add this schedule to the card of any employee that works that shift.
